PistenBully brings children to the snow

16 November 2016

A resolution was passed at this year's D-A-CH conference with the aim of giving ski schools and residential centres a fixed place in school life once more. Now it's up to the politicians. PistenBully has been involved with the theme of "Children and Snow" for some time now. Talented youngsters rarely come to the slopes on their own - they first have to be given a taste of how much fun snow and winter sports can be. PistenBully is actively supporting an initiative of the SBW (Ski Associations of Baden Württemberg) to this end.

Thanks to PistenBully's support, the SBW will be equipping 15 support bases with short skis in the coming season. The SBW will then work with local associations to hold PistenBully action days at schools and kindergartens nearby. The children will use the short skis to master a small skills course, gaining their first experiences with and on skis. The programme also includes downhill runs on small slopes or over small jumps, which are no problem with the skis. The emphasis is on fun and inspiring the kids! Direct contact with local ski associations is also crucial to the action days, as they can offer support for children through ski courses or ski jump, biathlon and cross-country training.

At least 50-100 children will be introduced to skiing in the coming winter thanks to this initiative - that's a total of up to 1,500 kids getting their first taste of skiing! The clear aim is to attract children to snow sports, securing the future of this sector. Whether they later choose to pursue a professional sporting career, join a ski association or simply ski for fun - the key factor for all the industry players is merely to maintain the fascination and diversity of snow sports and to safeguard it in the future.
