It’s a Big Day for Crystal Mountain, WA and PistenBully
The first Diesel Electric Snowgroomer for North America is the 20,000th PistenBully ever delivered.
The future of snow grooming has touched down on US soil. Crystal Mountain, WA took delivery of the first two diesel electric snowgroomers in North America - the PistenBully 600 E+ Official dedication of the 20,000th PistenBully took place on December 9th at Crystal Mountain with an on mountain celebration. John Kircher, President/GM of Crystal Mountain Inc. was on hand to accept the “ceremonial key” from Jens Rottmair, CEO of Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG. Crystal Mountain is making a considerable investment into this new technology. This big step forward in groomer technology will push ski industry boundaries and environmental sustainability.
Diesel electric drive is the most significant advancement in snowgrooming technology in the past two decades. The new technology boasts significantly lower ecological and economic impacts in addition to enhanced performance capabilities. The PistenBully 600 E+ uses a diesel engine to drive two electric generators which in turn power electric motors that turn the tracks and the snow tiller that conditions the snow for great skiing and riding. It develops 400 horsepower. What sets the new 600 E+ apart from standard groomers is efficiency and sustainability:
Operators will love driving the new diesel electric PistenBully 600 E+. The power is immediate and can be tapped at low engine RPM. Translation? The PistenBully 600 E+ has a completely new driving feel with powerful thrust - from a standing start!
Another advantage occurs going downhill. The electric energy created from the braking effect of the electric drive motors is used to power the snow tiller. The engine idles along - just sipping a little fuel.
In the mountains nature is our employer. It is important to strive to produce equipment that produces as small an impact as possible. The PistenBully 600 E+ with its diesel electric technology is a significant step towards that goal.
