SmartCut tiller from Kässbohrer – setting new standards in slope grooming

A picture-perfect slope—the new SmartCut tiller makes it possible.

With the SmartCut tiller, Kässbohrer is setting new standards in modern slope grooming. This innovative tilling technology delivers optimized snow processing, high efficiency, and outstanding results across a wide range of snow conditions. What sets the SmartCut tiller apart on all PistenBully models is the newly developed geometry of the tiller teeth and the exceptionally robust components. The result: improved snow distribution, a uniform, high-quality slope surface—all while reducing energy consumption.

Impressive in Real-World Testing: Field Experience from Garmisch
This performance has been impressively confirmed in real-world use. This season, the approximately 50 units in the field impressively demonstrated their sophisticated and reliable technology. Christian Edenhofer, workshop manager at Garmisch Classic, draws a clear conclusion after a thorough review of the season: “The SmartCut has been in continuous use here since the end of December—in absolutely every condition, from soft to extremely hard and icy. And I have to say: We now have a tiller that really works. We were particularly impressed by the new tiller teeth and the improved snow flow. The sturdy construction is also a major improvement, especially under harsh operating conditions. And when it comes to efficiency, the biggest advantage is clear: Where we used to have to make two passes, one pass is now enough. That not only saves fuel but also time and reduces wear and tear. PistenBully operator Eric Bader adds: “The SmartCut delivers a superb track profile and a flawless finish in all snow conditions! That’s the be-all and end-all—the perfect corduroy at the end.” After about 350 hours of use, both are certain: “In the future, we’ll rely exclusively on SmartCut snow groomers.”

Precision on the Cross-Country Trails, too
The SmartCut tiller has also been very well received in Switzerland. Nicolas Tille, a trail operator at the Les Mosses ski resort, shares his detailed hands-on experience after about 300 hours of operation:

“The SmartCut really shows its strengths, especially in icy conditions. In the past, we sometimes had to use the SnowCutter in addition to the SmartCut tiller in such situations to break up the hard surface—that’s no longer necessary. Instead, I first lightly prepare the snow with the blade so that it can be further broken up by the tracks. The SmartCut tiller then handles the actual finishing, where the right combination of cutting speed and pressure is crucial. In combination with the LSG cutters, this produces a very homogeneous, fine-grained final result. I’m also particularly impressed by the even surface treatment: the trail is built up consistently flat and clean. This is a major advantage, especially for skating trails, where the highest precision is essential. Overall, you can clearly feel that the way we work has changed—today we’re creating a completely different, very high-quality trail than before.”

Efficiency Through Expertise: Unlocking the Full Potential
Marvin Seibezeder, a Pro Academy trainer at Kässbohrer, also emphasizes that the SmartCut truly unleashes its full potential through proper use: “The SmartCut tiller is a completely different tool and requires a shift in mindset when using it. Those who make strategic use of the settings will be rewarded with significantly greater efficiency. As a rule, you can work with a shallower tilling depth, which reduces the amount of force required and increases overall performance. Especially against the backdrop of rising demands for cost-effectiveness and sustainability, this is a decisive advantage. With the SmartCut tiller you can achieve better results more efficiently—on the path to the perfect slope.”

From day one, Nicolas Tille has been thrilled with the new SmartCut and what he can do with it on his cross-country trails and ski slopes.
