PistenBully is once again supporting the Cross Alps Tour, which takes place this year from 9th to 22nd December, at three of four locations in Val Thorens, Arosa and in Montafon. The Cross Alps Tour takes athletes through four countries in 15 days, travelling 1,000 kilometres along the Alps. Starting in Val Thorens, the Tour stops off in Arosa and Montafon, before finishing at Innichen. A total of twelve competitions are staged during the Tour with prize money of 300,000 CHF going to the racers. Alongside the exceptional sporting performances, this year the public will also be entertained with concerts by a variety of artists.
In Val Thorens and Arosa the competition will be relying on SNOWsat, the snow and fleet management system incl. snow depth measurement. Unusually, a digital surface model is being used in place of the terrain model. This can be the course model from last season, a modification of that or a completely new design.
Realising a 3D course model using SNOWsat allows the landing zones to be optimised, improving safety for the ski crossers and minimising the risk of injury.
Under these conditions, everything is ready for a thrilling Cross Alps Tour. We wish the athletes a great start and hope it's a successful season! We also send our best wishes for a quick recovery to Daniel Bohnacker, who has unfortunately been injured during training.
