The Cross Alps Tour of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup was held for the first time from 9th to 22nd December. PistenBully supported the three locations at Val Thorens, Arosa and Montafon. The Cross Alps Tour is impressive from a sports perspective, but also as an event in itself. Famous artists entertained the crowds at flamboyant concerts.
The technical side was responsible for a few highlights too: SNOWsat was used in the construction of the World Cup course in Val Thorens and Arosa. A digital surface model created in advance was applied to the slopes using the snow and fleet management system to create the best possible conditions for the competitors. Safety was a major priority. The landing zones, for example, were optimised to minimise the risk of crashes and injuries for the athletes. The experience gained from this year's tour can now be used to refine and optimise the surface model for next year.
The concept of the tour was inspired by the Four Hills Tournament or Tour de Ski - but focussing solely on ski cross as a discipline. The FIS delivered a special high point of the tour in Arosa. A night race was held under floodlights for the first time ever at a ski cross event, which created an amazing atmosphere.
