Effective summer training:

How aspiring PistenBully drivers get ready for action

Last summer, we started having drivers learn to operate PistenBullys by driving on sand in the off-season. The training was well-received and useful, so it will be happening again this summer. Last year, around 20 aspiring drivers and fans from near and far took advantage of the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of PistenBully right at the Kässbohrer headquarters in Laupheim. The main attraction: the intensive hands-on experience and understanding of these powerhouse machines. After all, conditions on sand are surprisingly similar to those on snow.

Even without winter conditions, this allows for the development of a solid foundation for future use. The key factors are, first and foremost, understanding how to operate a PistenBully and developing the right feel for driving it. At the company headquarters in Laupheim, ProAcademy trainer Anthony Bowman provides intensive one-on-one training on a large-scale sand track, teaching fundamental knowledge in a highly practical and engaging manner.

Anthony covers all essential topics for beginners: from the technical functioning of a snow groomer and proper operation to the basics of slope grooming. He places particular emphasis on an efficient driving style that is gentle on both the machine and the environment. Safe handling of the vehicle is also a key focus. Afterward, there is ample time to apply what has been learned and develop a feel for the vehicle.

This ensures participants are fully prepared to take on simple assignments when the first snow falls. As a follow-up, we recommend advanced training at the ProAcademy Camp, which takes place in Sölden in November.

A special highlight of this training day is the individual and intensive coaching directly in the vehicle. The experience is complemented by a subsequent tour of the facility, including refreshments in the Kässbohrer cafeteria—an insight into the heart of PistenBully production.

The Pro Academy participation certificate can also be an advantage for future job applications.

Starting in April, there are numerous dates available:

Georg Hammerstingl: First, the training…

… then a personal inspection of the slope.

Georg Hammerstingl, a passionate cross-country skier from the Garmisch region, was thrilled with his day in Laupheim:

“My plan is set: When I retire, I want to drive a PistenBully myself and groom some really beautiful trails. As an active cross-country skier, I appreciate the quality of a good trail, and that’s why I’d like to get involved in trail grooming. In Laupheim, I picked up the necessary knowledge—practical and to the point. I’ve also trained with Anthony in Sölden. I deliberately treated myself to these courses because it’s simply worth it to me. Others invest their money in vacations or clothes—I’d rather invest in an experience like this. It’s a ton of fun and something very special to me.”

Anthony Bowman isn't just in his element on the snow. He shares his vast knowledge everywhere—with plenty of patience and even more fun!
