Successful Start to the Season on the Sand Track:
ProAcademy Prepares Participants for the Winter Season
Realistic training tasks, such as building a kicker, provide participants with valuable foundations in terrain shaping and snow grooming—even on the sand track.
The first ProAcademy sand track training courses have been a complete success. Participants from different countries and with a wide range of professional backgrounds took advantage of the recent courses to fulfill their dream of driving a PistenBully and lay the foundation for a potential career in a ski resort. These hands-on training sessions demonstrate how quickly enthusiasm for technology and the mountains can be transformed into genuine operating skills.
Whether mechanical engineers, career changers, or winter sports enthusiasts, participants come with different motivations but usually share the same goal: learning how to operate a PistenBully safely and effectively. The sand track training provides ideal conditions for entering the world of professional snow grooming. The practice-oriented instruction, combined with competent and dedicated support from experienced trainers, enables participants to gain confidence in the machine quickly and experience realistic working scenarios. For beginners and advanced operators alike, the training provides a valuable foundation—and for many, it is the first step toward making a dream career in the snow a reality.
From Combine Harvester to PistenBully
One example is John Deans from the British Channel Island of Jersey. As a qualified agricultural machinery mechanic, he already has extensive experience operating large machines. However, his long-standing dream has always been to work as a PistenBully operator in a ski resort. Since Jersey never sees snow, John regularly travels to the Alps for skiing holidays. His passion for the mountains and machinery ultimately motivated him to book a training course specifically designed to help him turn this dream into reality. The sand track experience became his first concrete step toward a potential “winter career.”
After only a short period of training, John was already able to operate the PistenBully safely and independently complete his first terrain-shaping projects. He was particularly impressed by the high level of practical training and the intensive support provided by his instructor, Anthony. “I traveled a long way from Jersey to take part in this course, but after just a few hours I knew I had made the right decision. Anthony is an excellent instructor—he explains everything clearly, takes the time to help, and immediately makes you feel comfortable operating the machine. I never expected to make progress so quickly. Before long, I was driving independently and even completing small projects such as building a ramp. I really enjoyed it, and it also gave me the confidence that my plan can actually become a reality.”
“For me, the training was absolutely worth it. I traveled a long way from Jersey, but after just a few hours I knew I had made the right decision. Anthony is a fantastic instructor—he explains everything clearly, takes the time to help, and immediately gives you confidence on the machine.
I never expected to make progress so quickly. Before long, I was driving independently and even completing small projects such as building a ramp. I really enjoyed it, and it also gave me the confidence that my plan can truly become reality. What I liked most was how practical the course is. You do not simply sit back and watch—you actively participate and learn step by step how to use the machine correctly. That is exactly what I was looking for.
For me, this is the first real step toward a dream: spending a season working in a ski resort. Thanks to this training, I now feel that this goal is genuinely achievable.” – John Deans
From Childhood Dream to the Driver’s Cabin
Florian Bosse also used a special phase in his life as an opportunity to get started. Between completing his master’s degree and beginning his professional career, he deliberately wanted to gain new experiences. His passion for the mountains and his enthusiasm for technology ultimately led him to the ProAcademy.

The initial respect he felt for the impressive machine quickly turned into excitement after the very first driving sessions. With every exercise, his confidence grew. Florian was particularly impressed by the versatility of the PistenBully and the practical, hands-on approach of trainer Anthony Bowman.
“After the very first day, I realized how much I enjoy working with the PistenBully. The training reinforced my desire to continue along this path and hopefully work in a ski resort myself in the near future.”
“For me, the sand track training is much more than just a driving course. It combines everything I am passionate about: technology, the mountains, and the opportunity to learn something completely new. After only a few hours, I realized how much I enjoy working with the PistenBully. The experiences I gained here have strengthened my determination to continue along this path. I am looking forward to learning even more and, hopefully, applying these skills in a ski resort very soon.” – Florian Bosse
Learn Through Practice – Start with Confidence
These two participants represent many others who discover their entry into the world of snow grooming through the sand track training courses. The training concept provides ideal conditions for learning vehicle operation, driving techniques, and the safe handling of the machine under realistic conditions. Thanks to the intensive one-on-one coaching, participants gain valuable practical experience in a very short time.
