1st FIS Clinic in China

21 December 2017

It was all about park building at the Chinese ski resort of Genting Resort Secret Garden for three days back in December. PistenBully supported this Asian FIS event with equipment and interesting presentations.
The ski resort of Genting Resort Secret Garden was built from scratch in 2011 and offers everything winter sport fans could want with its groomed slopes, hotels and attractions. All the freestyle competitions for the ski and snowboard events at the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022 will be held there. Just the right place then for the 1st FIS Course Builder & Designer Clinic in China.

Parks extremely popular in Asia too
Interest in parks has developed enormously over the last few years; they have become an important market for the future. Alongside adventure trails, fun areas and family parks, designs are becoming ever more extreme in the professional sector right now. All these trends have also been evident over the last few years at ski resorts in China, Korea and Japan. This also changes what's expected of the snow groomers: parks constitute a whole different set of tasks to the slopes. The first ever FIS Course Builder & Designer Clinic is also addressing this trend in the Asian market.

Compact expert know-how
What are the latest trends in the industry? And what is happening in park building right now? These questions are dealt with in detail in various presentations: Joe Fitzgerald from the FIS provided information on the latest developments in design, planning, construction and safety for professional parks. Harald Schmid from Kässbohrer not only showcased all PistenBully models for fun parks, but also focussed heavily on the PRO ACADEMY. The comprehensive training and instruction concept provides information and advice to drivers, slope managers and snow makers - including for park building. The SNOWsat snow and fleet management system plays a significant role in the effective construction of snow parks and skicross slopes. Stefan Lux, SNOWsat Product Manager, made a persuasive case of the possibilities SNOWsat can bring to park building. Details on snow production, presented by Mr Lui from Technoalpin completed the series of talks.

Park building up close
Finally, it was the turn of the experienced shapers from YiBu Parks, who build and maintain parks, and advise ski resorts on everything relating to parks. Along with the park experts from Secret Garden, they explained the extreme possibilities of the park machines. This gave the more than 60 attendees the chance to become more familiar with their new knowledge in a practical setting on the slopes.

The 1st FIS Course Builder & Designer Clinic has survived its baptism of fire. And there is still a lot of reporting and training to do before the 2022 Olympics...

Interesting presentations on a variety of themes
The attendees also picked up lots of practical tips while they were getting to know the vehicles.
Genting Resort Secret Garden proved a wonderful backdrop for the first FIS Clinic in China
